There is an over-reliance of non-renewable energy sources especially fossils and wood fuels. With increased demands on non-renewable energy sources in Kenya, there is now need to venture into alternative energy sources to cater for the ever increasing energy demands. One example is solar energy which is still largely untapped in Kenya.
PPP is a partnership between the public sector and the private sector for the purpose of delivering a project or a service traditionally provided by the public sector. In Kenya, the PPP framework is provided under the Public Private Partnerships Act, No 15 0f 2013.
Coast Development Authority has earmarked development of Solar Energy Generation Project which is expected to generate 40MW Photovoltaic Solar Power Energy. The aim for this project is to promote utilization of the readily available solar energy, to produce affordable clean energy for sustainable social and economic development and to strengthen CDA’s financial base.
Expected Outputs:
- • To produce 40MW and contribute to the national grid
- • To create direct and indirect employment for the youth and women for 1,000 and over 100,000 respectively.
- • To enhance environment conservation.
- • Infrastructural development
