Coast Development Authority (CDA) is one of the Executing Entities in implementing The Kenya Climate Change Adaptation Programme (KCCAP), a National program funded by the Adaptation Fund (AF) under the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC), to mitigate the effects of Climate Change. The programme aims at building resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change to vulnerable communities in Kenya.
The KCCAP is implemented under the National Implementing Entity, National Environment Management Authority (NIE-NEMA). Currently, the Programme in Coast region covers three counties: Kwale, Taita-Taveta and Kilifi Counties.
The main activities are geared towards:
- The establishment of appropriate physical assets and infrastructure for water harvesting, storage and irrigation.
- Establishment of 12 roof catchments (4 schools in each of the 3 counties)
- Construction of 3 water pans
The increasing resilience of effects of sea level rise and shoreline changes through Integrated Shoreline and Mangrove Ecosystem Management (ISMEM) in Vanga and Gazi.
- Rehabilitation of the mangrove ecosystem
- Rehabilitation and protection of the coral reef and seagrass ecosystems
- Shoreline stabilization
- Erosion and accretion control
- Setting up of inventory and GIS database
